POLICY

Privacy Policy

Your privacy matters to us. SpoortBook collects a limited set of personal data to operate this site, deliver our newsletter, and improve your experience. We do not sell your personal information to third parties, and we do not use it to build advertising profiles. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, how long we keep it, who we share it with, and what rights you have over your information. We have tried to write this in plain language — if something is unclear, reach out to <strong>privacy@spoortbook.example</strong> and we will clarify it for you.

What we collect

When you interact with SpoortBook directly — by creating an account, subscribing to our newsletter, or submitting the contact form — we collect the information you provide. This typically means an email address and, optionally, a display name. We do not require payment details, national identification numbers, or any sensitive personal data to use the site. If you contact us by email, we store that correspondence so we can respond and keep a record of the exchange.

Separately, our servers and analytics tools automatically record technical data when you visit any page. This includes your IP address (truncated before storage), browser type and version, operating system, the page you came from (referrer URL), pages viewed, and timestamps. We use this information to understand how the site is being used, to detect errors, and to improve performance. This data is collected in aggregate and is not linked to your account unless you are signed in.

SpoortBook uses cookies — small text files stored in your browser — for three purposes: session management (keeping you logged in), preference storage (remembering settings such as your preferred odds format), and analytics (counting page visits and understanding navigation patterns). Session cookies expire when you close your browser. Preference and analytics cookies persist for up to 13 months. You can refuse or delete cookies through your browser settings or via our cookie consent banner. Refusing analytics cookies does not affect your ability to use any part of the site.

How we use your data

We use the data we hold to operate and improve the site. That means: delivering content you request, sending newsletters and editorial updates you have opted into, personalising your experience (for example, remembering your preferred sports or odds format), measuring which content performs well so we can produce more of it, and communicating service changes or policy updates. We analyse aggregate usage data to make editorial and product decisions. We do not sell personal data. We do not rent or trade email lists. We do not use your data to build advertising profiles or to run targeted advertising campaigns.

Sharing with third parties

We share data only with service providers that help us operate the site. These currently include our cloud hosting provider (which stores site data and serves pages), our analytics platform (which processes anonymised usage statistics), and our email delivery service (which sends newsletters and transactional messages). Each of these vendors is bound by a Data Processing Agreement (DPA) that restricts their use of your data to the services they provide for us. We do not share personal data with our affiliate partners or with sportsbooks in any personally identifiable form.

Data retention

We retain account data for as long as your account is active. If you close your account, we delete your personal data within 90 days, except where we are required to retain it for longer by applicable law — for example, where financial records must be kept for tax or compliance purposes, in which case we may retain a minimal record for up to seven years. Analytics data is anonymised before storage and may be retained indefinitely in aggregate form because it cannot be used to identify any individual.

Your rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have some or all of the following rights over your personal data: the right to access a copy of the data we hold about you; the right to correct inaccurate data; the right to request deletion of your data; the right to receive your data in a portable format; the right to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent; and the right to object to certain types of processing. To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@spoortbook.example. We will respond within 30 days. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling a request.

International transfers

SpoortBook is operated by a small team and uses cloud infrastructure that may be located in countries other than your own. If you are based in the UK or European Economic Area, your data may be transferred to and processed in countries that do not provide an equivalent level of data protection. Where such transfers occur, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the relevant supervisory authority.

Children

SpoortBook covers sports betting, which is a regulated activity for adults only. This site is intended exclusively for individuals who are at or above the legal gambling age in their jurisdiction (18 in most markets). We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under the age of 18. If you believe we have inadvertently collected data from a minor, please contact privacy@spoortbook.example and we will delete it promptly.

Updates to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If a change is material — for example, if we start processing data for a new purpose — we will notify you either via a banner on the site or by email. The date at the bottom of this page always reflects when the policy was last revised. Continued use of the site after any revision constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

No. SpoortBook does not sell, rent, or trade personal data. Our affiliate partners receive aggregate traffic data but never personally identifiable information. Our revenue comes from commission on referred sign-ups, not from monetising your data. This will not change without explicit notice and, where required, your consent.

Account data is kept for as long as your account is active plus up to 90 days after closure. If we have a legal obligation to retain certain records — for tax or compliance reasons — we may keep a minimal record for up to seven years. Anonymised analytics data has no fixed expiry because it cannot be linked back to any individual.

Yes. Email <strong>privacy@spoortbook.example</strong> with the subject line "Account deletion request" and we will remove your account and associated personal data within 90 days. We may keep anonymised records of activity for analytics purposes, but nothing that identifies you personally will remain after that period.

No. We use cookies for three purposes only: keeping you logged in during a session, storing your display preferences, and measuring site performance with anonymised analytics. We do not use advertising cookies, retargeting pixels, or third-party ad-network scripts that track you across other websites.

Our primary infrastructure runs on cloud servers in the European Union and/or the United States, depending on the service. Where data is transferred outside the UK or EEA, we use Standard Contractual Clauses or other approved transfer mechanisms. Specific hosting regions are subject to change as we update our vendor stack; see the International Transfers section above for more detail.

Every newsletter we send contains an unsubscribe link in the footer. Clicking it removes you from the mailing list immediately. Alternatively, email <strong>privacy@spoortbook.example</strong> and we will unsubscribe you manually. Opting out of newsletters does not affect your account or your ability to use the site.

When you click an affiliate link and sign up with a sportsbook, that sportsbook collects its own data about you directly — SpoortBook is not a party to that relationship. We pass tracking parameters (click IDs) so the sportsbook can attribute your referral, but these are not personally identifiable on our end. We do not transfer your email, name, or any other profile data to any operator.

Email <strong>privacy@spoortbook.example</strong> with the subject line "Data access request" and include enough detail for us to verify your identity. We will compile a copy of the personal data we hold about you and send it in a portable format (CSV or JSON) within 30 days. Complex requests may take up to 60 days; we will let you know if that applies.

If we become aware of a breach that is likely to result in a risk to your rights or freedoms, we will notify the relevant supervisory authority within 72 hours as required by applicable law. If the breach is likely to result in a high risk to you personally, we will also notify you directly, explaining what happened, what data was affected, and what steps we are taking to address it.

Email <strong>privacy@spoortbook.example</strong> for any privacy-related query. We aim to respond within 5 business days for general questions and within 30 days for formal data-subject rights requests. If you are unsatisfied with our response, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your national data-protection authority.
